Yosuke Miyamato and Takeshi Matsuda excel in finals of Men’s events in the Japan Open 2011
Yosuke Miyamoto and Takeshi Matsuda produced amazing swims in the Men’s events to conquer the titles on day one of the Japan Open 2011 Swimming National Championships.
The session concluded with the finals of 1500m freestyle, 200m butterfly, 100m breast-stroke, 100m back-stroke and the 200m freestyle in the Men’s category.
The event initiated with the 1500m freestyle final, where the 20-year-old Miyamoto proved his dominance for the golden crown by occupying the top spot on the podium in 15:06.98 minutes. He was followed by Youhei Takiguchi and Yuuto Sataou, who appeared on
the podium for the silver and bronze medal by posting timings of 15:07.04 and 15:20.69 minutes, respectively.
The next category was the 200m butterfly final, where the 26-year-old Takeshi Matsuda demonstrated his marvellous swimming skills, conquering the gold medal in a time of 1:55.76 minutes. Matsuda was almost three seconds slower from the Japanese Record of
1:52.97 minutes, but managed a lead of 1.13 seconds from his closest competitor, Kazuya Kaneda. Kaneda followed him on the podium for the silver medal and finished his swim in a time of 1:56.89 minutes. Takuya Nozawa reached the podium for the bronze medal
in an impressive time of 1:57.32 minutes.
The third event of the session was 200m freestyle final, where the 27-year-old Yoshihiro Okumura secured the title in 1:48.43 minutes. His astonishing effort placed him comfortably ahead of the Syogo Hihara and Fumiya Hidaka, who finished their swims for
the silver and bronze medal, producing a time of 1:48.44 and 1:48.74 minutes, respectively.
Moments later, 20-year-old Ryosuke Irie clinched the golden spot on the podium for his incredible effort of 53.11 seconds. His astounding attempt was only 0.87 seconds away from the national record of 52.24 seconds. Irie had a considerable lead of 1.72 seconds
from his closest competitor, Kousuke Hagina, who occupied the silver medal in 54.83 seconds. They were followed by 21-year-old Yuuki Shirai, who finished his swim in 55.15 seconds for the bronze medal.
After few minutes, the arena witnessed a great show from Ryo Tateishi, who dominated the 100m breast-stroke, by touching the wall in 1:00.55 minutes for the gold medal. The 21-year-old Tateishi overwhelmed the 2008 Beijing Olympics gold medallist and national
record holder, Kosuke Kitajima. Kitajima settled on the podium for silver medal, with a timing of 1:01.27 minutes. He was followed by Hiromasa Sakimoto, who touched home for the bronze medal, posting a time of 1:01.32 minutes.
The championship will continue for two more days, with the aim of completing all swimming events in the Men’s and Women’s Open category. The winners of the event will have a chance to represent Japan at the 2011 Shanghai World Championships, this July.
