You are a members of a crime prevention , what would you do to prevent/reduce snatch theft in your hometown?

you are a members of crime prevention group in your hometown. there has been a spate of snatch thefts in town resulting in serious physical harm and financial loss to the victims...

what is the way to prevent/reduce snatch thefts. you intend to share your ideas/solution wth the police and the town residents...

it's really important for us because it often happen in my hometown..

i would lock up all the snatches in chastity belts.

Have the cops set up a "victim" which would be an old appearing lady with a walker and a purse. Let them wait until the thugs snatch her purse. Then the cops can snatch them...unless you are in California. Then it probably violates the crooks rights. So have an empty purse.

One somewhat controversial solution might be the use of video cameras in public places.

There's no problem with videotaping people in public places (they are in public, after all), but some people are upset by this. Needless to say, though, it could be an effective deterrent. If the thieves know that they will probably be caught if they snatch purses, then they probably won't do it. Video evidence would be extremely effective in apprehending these criminals.

If this isn't possible, another method is public service announcements. Use radio, television, newspapers, etc to get the word out about safety. For example, PSAs about not staying out alone after dark, and so forth. Travel in groups, that kind of thing.

A third time-honored method is simply to increase the amount of patrolmen. More police equals less crime, simply put. It's one of the only statistically influential methods to surely reduce crime.
