You are going out to eat in a restaurant, the server comes, takes your order, they bring your order when its ready, when you finished eating, left overs or no, they bring you the bill, how much money to you tip them? What % of the bill do you tip them, no matter if you think they did a good job or a bad job. Let's say if you think they did a good job, how much do you tip them? Now if they did a bad job, in your own opinion, how much do you tip them, do you give them less then you would have, if they did a good job?

  1. 20% +  good

    10% +   fair

    10%  -   bad

  2. 20% if excellent --- courteous, checks back frequently, answers questions, provides recommendations

10-15% if good --- courteous, less attentive, decent service

0% if bad --- unattentive, very slow, messes up order, doesn't refill drinks, ignores requests

I don't believe in providing a tip for awful service. I'd rather tip nothing for the unpleasant experience, knowing that I could have saved my time and energy going to a fast food joint instead. It is after a "service" of the restaurant for the staff to wait on the customers. That's the job description.

  3. First, I can't image when people say "IF" they should tip with the excuse "I can't afford it."  Then don't go out to that restaurant!!  Servers don't even make minimum wage.  They depend on the gratuities to "get by".  Serving people all day is not that easy.  Most of the time the patrons aren't always nice and they have to take it so that they can feed they're families.  In addition the "tip" system is made for the customers benefit.  TIPS= To Insure Proper Service.  Basically to motivate the staff to give you great service.

  4. I tip 20% unless the service was really bad and I know it was the waiter/waitress fault. In the case of really bad service, on the part of wait staff, then I ask to see the manager. It has to be really bad for me to do that, but I will if the service was totally terrible. I have recieved vouches for free dinners after taking to the manager. I know that being a waiter or waitress is a really hard job, so I am never rude to someone who is serving me and I think 20% is above the normal 15% that most people leave for really good service.

  5. i always tip at least 15%. its only fair. servers rely on their tips and if they do a good job i give 20%. If u can't afford to tip, go to McDonalds.

  6. the best way to tip is you always double the tax on the bill. if your bill is 54.00 dollors and your tax is 5.00 dollors, you would leave him 10.00 dollors tip. that usually ends up to be about 17 to 20 percent . depends what state your in tax percentage. a good tip is usually 15 percent of the bill.john new york.

  7. if they go a great job i tip at least 20 percent or more.

  8. i say IF you feel like tipping them, then tip them what you feel is good.  there is no law that says a customer has to tip someone who serves them. i know that servers do not make much money and rely on tips.  this is my pet peeve. many servers insist on being tipped...however the servers do not know if the customer can afford it.. maybe they saved all month so they can go out and enjoy a meal and can not afford to tip.

  9. Servers are apart of the back bone of this country!  Working in some states for as little as $2.62 an hour(yhea..its legal), they deal with people all day long...all of us in our own little bubbles with our own finicky demands! Great service should be rewarded with a great tip, in my opinion at least 25%..more if you can. Mediocore service is still worthy of 15%..after all, the server is just one part of the puzzle. Servers can make or break a dining experence...read reviews, and look for places with a record of outstanding customer service!

Oh yhea, if you cant afford to tip, hit a dennys or drive thru...its not only rude, but just plain un-American not to tip!

  10. Good  service is 10-15 %, never less than a dollar however even if  it is over 15% anyway I never leave less than $1.00.sorry but I work at an hourly wage too. If the service is bad 10% and I do not come back for a long time.

  11. well... It's not about percents.. You Always have to double the TAX.. but if you think they did a bad job... take a dollar or 2 off..  But i thats always what i do
