You are not connected ?

i am connected to the internet.but when i try to watch video online i get a message saying i am not connected to the internet. i diagnose the problem and it says no problems were found with my network. i am using a new laptop with vista. and my old laptop plays the video so there isnt a problem withe the website. its driving me mental i have tried changing settings and nothing seems to work.

  1. Unfortunately you have provided insufficient information to help me solve the problem. First, are you on a wired or wireless connection ? If wireless, are you sure you are connected to the internet and not just to teh Wireless AP ?

    Second, are you using a saved link to get to the video site, or are you browsing to the site, then trying to play the video ? Can you open www.yahoo.com ? BTW - that will tell us if you are truly connected to the internet or not.

    Because this is Vista, this sort of sounds like a firewall problem, and the video site is trying to use a port that is not open on the computer firewall.  You didn't say if the computer that does play the video correctly is also Vista or perhaps WinXP/2000.

    First shot is to 'temporarily' disable the firewall and see if you can view the video. This is risky but will tell us much on the first try. If you are behind a NAT'ed router, a little less risky. As soon as you see the video start, stop the playback and re-enable the firewall. If that works, then compare your firewall settings on the Vista machine to the one that is working as see where the differences lie.
