You have a ton of room in the salary cap, and a top 5 draft pick coming in the draft, what do you do?

  1. Its much easier to win with a good defense and bad QB than with a good QB and no defense. I would work on defense and the O line first. As long as you are not the bears, you can find a decent QB via free agency or trade(Brett Favre, Kitna, Penninton and so on) and running backs are a dime a dozen. The Broncos, with their line, had bad up full backs that they started at tailback, and went on to have 1000 yards.

  2. Usually offence first, so i would focus a little bit more on  the QB's,  and WR's area, etc

  3. 1. Pick up 3 quality O-linemen

    2. QB

    3. Get a leader on the Defensive Front 7 and a shut down corner.

    4. deep threat at WR

    5. pass rushers on DL and LB

    6. there's not too many top notch RBs, but there are a lot of solid runners.

probably sign 2 HBs & set up a thunder/lightning run game.

    7. solid possesion WR

    8. Fill the missing holes in the secondary.

  4. build my defense which win games

  5. Offensive line

    defensive line

strength and consistency at those positions make the skill position jobs much easier...thus not needing elite skill levels at all those other postions. You can do more with lesser talent when you dominate on both lines.

spend the draft pick on a QB....if ther is a potential future franchise player available, otherwise use it to trade for a great QB prospect on another team.

  6. O line.

  7. The defensive and offensive lines. It all starts in the trenches.

  8. As the saying goes, "defense wins championships" so this is the first place to start. A prime example was the Baltimore Ravens who won the Super Bowl with their defense. You can have a mediocre offense with a decent quarterback. Special teams is just as important as well.

  9. get a good quarterback.  without a good quarterback you can't do anything really

  10. O-line, O-line, O-line and O-line

Most people will say qb, and that is right to an extent, but here is the reasoning.

If you put a great qb behind a mediocre o-line, the great qb will be constantly pressured and will have to make many difficult plays to be productive. Defenses can put pressure and stop the run b/c of poor blocking and the whole offense stagnates.

If you put a mediocre qb behind a great o-line you will still have a successful running game based on effective run blocking. And even a mediocre NFL qb can hit an open receiver if you give them a bit of time and a defense that is having to sit back to stop the run.

Also, by building O-line first, you guard against injury. Lets say you go out and spend a ton of money on your all-pro qb and he gets injured. SCREWED!! Conversely, you have to have 2-3 or more injuries to completely dismantle a very good o-line.

Oh, and trade the top 5 pick for two later first round picks. 2 good rookie o-line can be picked up late without overpaying them ridiculously.
