Well, with adding fractions, you must first find the common denominator. You know what that is right? the bottom number. Which would be 8. Since you found the common denominator, 1/2 becomes 4/8, 3/4 becomes 6/8, and 7/8 stays 7/8. Because whatever you do to the bottom you must do to the top, and what you did to the bottom was make it 8.  remember? then you just add the numerators which would be 4/8+6/8+7/8=17/8. And that should be your answer... unless you want to make the number a mixed fraction... but that's not what you asked...
