You are pretty much okay in NZ.  It is far away from all the poisonous animals of Australia!

The only poisonous animal native to New Zealand is the katipo, a red-black spider, one of the deadliest spiders in the world. There are no snakes native to New Zealand. Many of New Zealand's native species are on the decline and some, like the kakapo, are on the verge of extinction.

New Zealand is pretty safe from poisonous animals - compared to Australia anyway! It's a pretty safe country in general but like all big cities, Auckland and Wellington have a few problem areas so don't wander around alone in the middle of the night!
