You can get away with jury duty?

A friend of mine told me today that she got a jury duty summons a long time ago, and she just ignored it, and she never got in trouble.

You can actually get away with jury duty? Won't they eventually catch you?

Also, my other friend told me to just say I don't speak English....and said that will work, but how can it? Won't they find out?

  1. Unless you have a true reason not to attend, skipping out on jury duty is pretty lame. It is the cornerstone of our legal system of being judged by our peers. Imagine what would happen if nobody attended to serve on a jury. I consider it an honor to have the chance to participate in our legal system.

  2. Are we so afraid of our civic duty that we would lie and cheat to get out of something as simple as jury duty? Try spending a year in the desert for your civic duty. That air conditioned court house seems like a dream to me.

  3. Actually you WILL get in trouble if you simply ignore it. They usually come hunt you down.

If you want to gt out of it just say "I don't think I could make a decision without prejudice on this case" and they will let you go. =P
