plucking a string makes sound based on the elasticity of the strong blowing into the pipe uses the pipe for the harmonics the diameter of the pipe would effect the sound comeing out (wavelength) while the string would depend on how tight the string is and what the string is made out of. they are both siimilar because all sound basically is vibrations in the air.
