  1. Hey! I just became a veggie also. Yes, you can have milk. There are lots of websites you can visit that have very good information. Just do a Google search on pros to becoming a vegetarian. Here are some things I have found out.

It's good for the environment. You can help conserve fossil fuels as well as water, and it helps save the forests. Forests are cut down every day in order to raise livestock.

Also, it obviously benefits the animals. 8 billion animals are slaughtered every year so they can be on our plates. Many people think that these animals are killed quickly and painlessly, but that is not the case. Male cows have their private areas ripped off, their horns cut, and are branded which causes third degree burns--all without pain killers. There aren’t laws against some of the awful, awful things they do to these animals, but if they did all this to a dog or cat, it would be a federal crime. Remer when that football player was charged for all that bad stuff he did to dogs (ex.-dog fights, drowning them, etc.)? Well all of that and worse is done daily to cows, pigs, chickens, and turkeys. Check out goveg.com. It's a great site to help you learn about why people are veggies. I don't suggest watching the videos because they are powerful enough to crack your heart right in half, but click on where it says cow, pig, chicken, etc. on the left side.

Finally, being a vegetarian will benefit YOU. Vegetarians have less risk of heart disease, cancer, diabetes, and many more. I have only been one for a week, but I hear that you don't get cramps when you are on your period. YES! People also say that you will feel "lighter" and experience less stress.

My favorite ways to get protein is by eating nuts and yogurt. I'm going to the doctor soon and I plan on asking if I should take a vitamin to help with getting the things I need. People may tell you that you need meet to stay healthy. That is absolutely not true. There is plenty of other ways to get the protein and other things you need. Vegetarians can actually expect to live 4-10 years longer than meet eaters.

Congratulations on helping to save the world! I hope I helped and I wish you the best of luck! Do lots of research online, look for veggie books, talk to your doctor, and you will be fine. = )

  2. I don't think there is a rule book, nore is there a vegetarian police that will arrest you if you drink milk.

There are different levels of vegetarianism, though.  My wife is an "ovo-lacto" vegetarian, which means she eats egg and dairy products, but no meats or meat products of any kind.

It's amazing how many people ask if she eats chicken and fish!

Vegans do not eat any animal product of any kind, so that would exclude milk, eggs, cheese, Jello, and any product containing gelatin (such as medicines that come in capsule form).

  3. Milk is okay when you're a vegetarian (I think it's called a lacto-vegetarian or something like that) although I'd also suggest soy milk.

For protein, it's a good idea to eat lots of soy or beans (or both, even better ^^). Without these two, you won't have enough protein in your diet.

If you switch to soy milk, make sure it is calcium-fortified (I like to use Silk milk) so you can get a good amount of calcium.

Other than that, eat lots of fruits and veggies and have a nice day. ^^

There are also lots of alternatives to things like butter (Such as Earth Balance margarine) and  simple things like chocolate chips (If you have a Whole Foods store near you, they sell vegan/vegetarian chocolate chips). Just look around and if you know any vegetarians, ask about some of the foods and drinks they use. :)

  4. vegetarians do drink milk (supporting the veal industry) but vegans do not. vegans dont eat any products of animals, like cheese, milk, etc. :)

  5. yes i drink low fat skimmed milk not cows milk if i run short i get goats milk

  6. Yes.  Vegetarians eat no animals, vegans eat nothing that comes from animals.

  7. No Vegetarian's and vegan's can drink milk and soy products, because there is different types of being a vegetarian:

    1. Pescatarian (also spelled pescetarian)

The word “pescatarian” is occasionally used to describe those who abstain from eating all meat and animal flesh with the exception of fish. Although the word is not commonly used, more and more people are adopting this kind of diet, usually for health reasons or as a stepping stone to a fully vegetarian diet.

    2. Semi-vegetarian

You don’t have to be vegetarian to love vegetarian food! “Flexitarian” is a term recently coined to describe those who eat a mostly vegetarian diet, but occasionally eat meat.

    3. Vegetarian (Lacto-ovo- vegetarian)

When most people think of vegetarians, they think of lacto-ovo-vegetarians. People who do not eat beef, pork, poultry, fish, shellfish or animal flesh of any kind, but do eat eggs and dairy products are lacto-ovo vegetarians (“lacto” comes from the Latin for milk, and “ovo” for egg).

Lacto-vegetarian is used to describe a vegetarian who does not eat eggs, but does eat dairy products.

Ovo-vegetarian refers to people who do not eat meat or dairy products but do eat eggs.

    4. Vegan

Vegans do not eat meat of any kind and also do not eat eggs, dairy products, or processed foods containing these or other animal-derived ingredients such as gelatin. Many vegans also refrain from eating foods that are made using animal products that may not contain animal products in the finished process, such as sugar and some wines. There is some debate as to whether certain foods, such as honey, fit into a vegan diet.

    5. Raw vegan/Raw food diet

A raw vegan diet consists of unprocessed vegan foods that have not been heated above 115 degrees Fahrenheit (46 degrees Celsius). “Raw foodists” believe that foods cooked above this temperature have lost a significant amount of their nutritional value and are harmful to the body.

    6. Macrobiotic

The macrobiotic diet, revered by some for its healthy and healing qualities, includes unprocessed vegan foods, such as whole grains, fruits and vegetables, and allows the occasional consumption of fish. Sugar and refined oils are avoided. Perhaps the most unique qualifier of the macrobiotic diet is its emphasis on the consumption of Asian vegetables, such as daikon, and sea vegetables, such as seaweed.

  8. You can drink milk if you are a vegetarian.  The restriction would be if you were a vegan and did not eat any dairy.  I would suggest that you drink soy milk though

  9. Personal preference... Generally vegetarians do, vegans don't.

  10. Yes, you can drink milk when you are a vegetarian. The only things you cannot eat is anything with a face. And yes you can eat eggs too, they haven't been fertilized yet so they do not have a face. Vegans do not consume ANY animal products. Hope I helped!

  11. I actually prefer soy milk. I'd try it if I were you. It doesn't have any milky aftertastes and after drinking soy milk for so long, I can't even eat regular milk in my cereal.

I really like the Silk brand, and their chocolate soymilk is to die for!

  12. If you are ovo-lacto then yes.

If you are strict vegetarian then you don't eat animal stuff.

Vegan means no animal products(incl honey) at all.

There are only pros to being veg. You will feel better and perform better in everyday life.

Don't worry about protein. You will get enough.

  13. You can drink milk when you are a vegetarian, but not as a vegan.

  14. yup
