“You can’t control what people are going to think about you,” says Kevin Youkilis
Former Boston Red Sox star Kevin Youkilis has recently signed with the New York Yankees. Though this is a healthy sign for Youkilis to start with another leading team in the Major League but still many believe that Yankees and Red Sox’s rivalry now will
grow further.
However, Youkilis has other perspective on this late concern. He is saying that it will not be a big concern that Boston fans are not happy about this deal.
“You can’t control what people are going to think about you, All you can control is what you’re doing in the game. I think over the years I’ve had a lot of Yankee fans come up to me and say ‘Hey, I’m a huge Yankee fan but I like the way you play the game.’
I’m going to play as hard as I can every day and I think a lot of fans will appreciate that,” Youkilis said in a conference call.
He added, “So, that’s all I can bring to the table and I hope that the Yankee fans enjoy watching me play,”
Youkilis last played split season with the Chicago White Sox and Boston Red Sox and did quite well. He achieved consistent hitting average of .235 along with 19 home runs, 60 RBIs and .336 OBP.
Earlier news also came out in the media that Youkilis will be re-signed by the White Sox as their management is quite happy about his season long performance. However, he found Yankees deal more lucrative and signed with them.
Overall his career hitting average of .283 along with 148 home runs, 610 RBIs and .384 OBP also makes him a good role player in the league. This is a very good sign that Youkilis now will be playing for another leading Major League team.
Yankees before signing Youkilis evaluated his past seasons’ performances and then signed him for a potential season. Youkilis will help the Yankees in two ways. First it will provide them good offence at third base and secondly he can also play on several
positions in the infield which is beneficial for the Yankees to play more open.
