You don’t have to groom someone to be captain, feels http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sourav-Chandidas-Ganguly-c90746 – Cricket News Update
Sourav Ganguly, the former India skipper, is not in favour of grooming players to captain a side in international cricket and feels that the skill of leading a team efficiently comes by itself.
India’s current captain, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 in the on-going battle.
Dhoni and company were expected to dominate the proceedings against the Poms, especially after their comprehensive victory in the first Test at Ahmedabad. Alastair Cook’s men however, had other plans as they bounced back hard to beat
the hosts at http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mumbai-c820 and Kolkata, going 2-1 up in the series, with the last match scheduled to begin from December 13, at Nagpur.
There is a school of thought in India, which believes that it is about time the selectors start to train a younger player to lead the Men in Blue, with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/G-Gambhir-c1447 emerging as favourites to succeed the wicketkeeper/batsman.
However, Ganguly is not supporting the idea of grooming a captain beforehand and feels that leadership skills come naturally to an individual. The former left-hander quoted some past examples to strengthen his argument.
“I was not groomed to be captain of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/R-Dravid-c2229 decided to give up captaincy, and you know the captaincy was
offered to Tendulkar and he refused to do it, the job went to Dhoni. I don't agree with this thing that you have to groom someone to be captain.”
The former skipper is of the opinion that there is too much burden on Dhoni at the present moment, leading the Indian team in all three formats of the game. While advocating the idea of relieving the wicketkeeper from the Test captaincy,
Ganguly feels that Dhoni can start to perform better as a player if his workload is decreased.
“I fear we may lose him as a player if we continue like this. He is a match-winner for India and he has done wonders for the team,” he added.
