  1. Corn Ethanol is causing the price of food to increase.  Corn is used to feed chickens, cattle, and hogs thus when the price goes up due to more demand for corn for ethanol production the price of hogs, cattle, and chickens also goes up.  A possible solution to corn ethanol is switch grass ethanol which would utilize a hay crop to produce food which will still elevate the price of feed grain and compete with farm land that could produce a food crop instead of fuel.

Biodiesel is primarily made from soybean oil which increases the price of oil to the restaurants that use it for frying.  Biodiesel is also being made from non-edible oils like jatropha, chicken fats left over from chicken rendering, and algae oil is the feedstock of the future.

  2. No - CORN ETHANOL - is the single biggest reason food prices have gone up.

It is so impacting - even Texas which is profiting wildly from energy increases is asking the EPA to reduce its' ETHANOL requirement for Gasoline additives by 50%.

It is negativley impacting meat producers, Beef, Chicken, etc.  all use corn to feed their animals.

    Worst yet:

1.) ETHANOL does nothing to reduce foreign dependence on OIL.

2.) Requires more petroleum to make and transport than you can get out of it.

3.) Does nohing for the enviroment - see line 2

4.) Is not a very efficient fuel for cars - the compression ratio would need to be increased to ~12:1 verse 8.5:1.  You cannot increase compression ratios on the fly.

This is simply a transfer of wealth from the middle class to Agriculture Businesses in the Mid-West, and Texas.
