  1. Do some reading on-lone or in books to keep diet balanced.

Get good at cooking and enjoy the good food.

  2. Great question... I know this is a huge concern when you decide to go vegan, but really, most people on a vegan diet are eating MUCH healthier than the average person. It's the average person who should be learning about the hazards of their diet.

That being said, just make sure you don't become a junk food vegan. There are so many good fake-meat products out there now that you could realistically eat pizza, chips, ice cream, soda, and candy all day and still be considered a vegan. Those foods are never going to be healthy, and should always be eaten in moderation.

The best thing to do is fill your kitchen with vegetables, fruits, whole grains (things like whole wheat, brown rice, quinoa, millet, rye, etc), and beans. Learn a few easy recipes with these ingredients, and you are all set. The only vitamin that you can't get a large amount of from a vegan diet is vitamin B12, so get a good vegan one at the store. Luckily, your body stores B12, so you don't even need it daily.

Don't worry about protein! Most Americans get way more protein than they need and your body will just get rid of the extra (in the toilet). If you eat veggies, fruits, beans, and whole grains, you will get all the protein, calcium, and everything else you need.

Check out this website for more information on what vegans eat: http://www.vegan-nutritionista.com/vegan...

  3. watch your protein, iron, b-vitamins, calcium, omega-3's, and unsaturated fats. Take a multivitamin and flaxseed oil daily, and eat soy based meat replacements + fruits, veggies!

  4. Stop eating junk food.

    Learn how to cook.

Don't try to mimic every non-vegan dish for too long. They are great to have on a regular basis but you need to have more whole and less processed foods as the majority of your diet.

Breads, pastas, rice, whole unprocessed grains, beans, peas, lentils, fruits and veggies should make up the bulk of what sustains you.

Consume vitamin B12 and omega-3s regularly.

  5. Do you have an iPod? In iTunes there is a wonderful Vegan podcasts called "Vegetarian Food for Thought". I have learned soooo much and she is a wealth of information. Check it out. If you don't have an iPod check out http://www.compassionatecooks.com/

    that's her website.

  6. watch your proteins and it always help to take a muti-vitamin

*good proteins are nut and soy products
