Alot of states require restaurant's to show their most current Health Inspection report to any private citizen who ask's. Some town's will even require it to be posted by the entrance (such is the case in a town in Connecticut that will require that by July 1, 2008).

  1. I never ask to see these.

Many areas have websites where you can actually see the violations of restaurants in your area.  I know when my area first put theirs up, I was entertained for hours going over who had what violation.  I live in a resort/college town with tons and tons of restaraunts, most of the violations were very minor and quickly corrected.  There are a couple places I made mental notes to NEVER eat at tho...

  2. i would ask it is your right as citizen

  3. if they are a good resturant they will post it so every one can see there scores i would to show it off. my teacher did in culinary school. we got like 96 to 98% . and she would hang it up in the cafeteria. and most resturants need to show that employees have a servsafe certificate or its not good. at least 2 employees at all times should be at work with a servsafe certificate. i went to culinary school.

i say eat first then ask.

  4. I wasn't even aware this was available.  It's certainly not required to post it in Michigan.

To answer the question - even if they are available I wouldn't read them.

  5. If I am in doubt, in any way of the Restaurant of my choosingfor my meal, then I will ask to see the health report, but you know, most restaurants live on word of mouth advertising, coupons and accessability.  Initially, I will visit a new establishment that somebody else has been to, they're my guinea pigs and go from there. If I see signs that are telling me that I need to see the Health Departments reports, then I won't probably eat there anyways.............Plus, in this business, the Health Department does drops some hints when they visit of places in your area of NOT to VISIT, God Bless them!!!!!!  I have never gone to this step myself, but I'm glad its available if and WHEN I need it.  Good Info to know, thanks for the interesting question!

  6. I look up all the eating places in my area on the web.  My local health department published this stuff on-line!

  7. I was under the impression that ALL restaurants in the US had to have their latest health inspection report posted in clear view of patrons at all times.

But if you don't see it, ask for it. If they are hesitant or offended, they obviously have something to hide. Good luck and happy dining!
