Like, pet snails?

Could I put one of those in the tank with my betta fish?

(Meaning, will the betta try to kill it, and can the snail survive without a filtration system.) A standing bowl of water. (with a heater)

  1. Beta fish don't have to spend their whole lives alone.  They just need enough space to create their own territory.  I added a beta fish to a 35 gallon tank of non aggressive fish (no other betas), and it seems quite happy there.  It never pays any attention to the snail, plecko fish or smaller fish that swim around it.  He's been living there for about a year and a half now.

If you want to try having a small tank, I've seen whole 10 gallon sets with lighted hoods at walmart for $40.

  2. A betta won't survive well in a standing bowl of water either.  It is totally a myth that they enjoy small stagnant places.  A betta needs a minimum of a 5 gallon filtered heated tank to be healthy.

  3. ask the people at the store

  4. Bettas are compatible with fish like tetras, and yes--snails!  The snails would do a good job cleaning up the tank and the shell will do well protecting it if you have a fierce betta.

  5. The snail would be just fine! They are sorta like sucker fish, but they just work alot slower. If the betta took any interest in the snail (which I doubt he would), the snail could easily hide in his shell. And, like I said, because they eat up algae and other strange things, they would be okay without a filtration system.
