Does this mean you can drive no more than 80 mph (remember, I live in Texas and our interstate speed limits are 80 mph)?

Does this mean you can drive no more than 10 percent over 80 mph or 88 mph?

Do you interpret "Speed Limit 80" as a suggestion, as in: "Speed Limit 80" means "We think it would be a nice idea if you went 80, but we also know you had the computer in your car reprogrammed so your car will go 140, so if you want to keep your speed down somewhere below 115 in this area we think it would be just a peachy-keen idea (but just keep an eye out for cops by the side of the road)!"

  1. Seeing how my car's a piece of junk, I don't think it can make it past 65, so I would think that sign doesn't apply to me.

    How ya doing, Marq?

  2. Pink.

  3. Legally you cannot do over 80! But every will interpret it as a suggestion, so just keep a look out for the cops!

  4. I also live in Texas and there is no such thing as allowing someone a bit of grace mphs over the speed limit.  It is a myth.  The last speeding ticket I got was in Jackson County Texas (outside of Houston on my way to the Rio Grande Valley) and it had a fee for going 1 mph over the speed limit.  And Jackson County is not the only speed trap in Texas.

  5. yeah...  i'm going with the last choice.  115 might be a little severe, but somewheres right under the hundo mark would be where i'd be cruisin'.

my SEL might be 18 years old, but it'll still haul @ss all day long w/ any s-class or 7 series on the road, baby.

    **edit**

wow!  i've had MY eyes opened...  thanks for the 411.  if i'm ever in TX, i'll cut back on the speed...

    peace,

  6. It means I need to slow down ...........

  7. It means that thats the fastest you should drive while receiving some "favors" from your passenger. ;) Otherwise 80 means 100.

  8. It depends entirely on the vehicle I'm in. Having had my Wrangler up to 105, trust me, 80 is about as fast as you want to go. If I borrow a BMW 80 is a cruising speed.

When I'm in a car that will stick to the ground, an 80 sign would typically mean just run up to 85 and nobody's going to bother me. If I'm on the stretches of I-10 or I-20 you're referring to, that sign usually means make sure I've got the radar/laser detector plugged in and go about as fast as I feel safe going.

  9. It it says "speed limit 80" - it literally means the highest speed you can go is 80. Of course if there is a car in front of you or your in a traffic jam you wouldn't be doing 80 because you'd crash into someone.

  10. If i saw a "Speed Limit 80" sign, that means that i better not go past 80 MPH or else the cops will be on my case

  11. When I see 80, I keep it at 87-90....I keep the posted mph as a suggested speed minimum/safe speed.  Remember, you can also get cited for going too slow without reason.  I think 5 over the speed limit is good.

  12. It means I need to follow the rules of the road, unless I want to risk getting a big fat ticket or violation. (Which I don't.) There are plenty of times when I've gone way above what I should have, but when it comes down to it, I'd rather be safe than sorry.

I know, what a boring answer...

  13. All I know is that in Jersey thoes signs say 65MPH However in you go under 80MPH you may as well kiss your As$ goodbye.
