I think its because it will make it easier to pick the best students for the best colleges

to get into a good college. that's one of the ways that they 'judge' their potential students.

College is competitive...not everyone will be accepted.  You need a high GPA and high scores on either the SAT/ACT.  That will determine if you are accepted or not. (college professor)
