  1. Julie Clark for one. She was an airline captain and spends most of her time now doing airshows.

She is a great example of a very successful woman pilot. And there are many, many more who aren't famous but are fine pilots. You can do anything you set your mind to and are willing to work for.

  2. The lfight engineer is basically a dead profession.  Very few opportunities exist for them, and if you were to get hired as a flight engineer, it would only be after many years as acting as a pilot for another company.  So just go straight for the pilot.

As for the first part of your question...yes.  There's absolutely no reason why a woman cannot be a pilot and cannot have a career that is just as successful as a man's.  Aviation as a whole has been trying to change the image of itself as a "boy's club" and more and more women are given the exact same opportunities men are.  There are still far more men in the industry than there are women, but that is changing rapidly.  I work with many women, speak to many female controllers, and deal with female mechanics and dispatchers on a daily basis.  Plenty of women have had very successful careers in aviation.

  3. I guess it depends on how famous you need to be.  I'm famous around here.  Every time I walk down the street, people say "Uh-Oh; here SHE comes again...(!)"

But the straight answer is, "Sure.  If you are dedicated and talented, you can succeed as a pilot.  Be advised the role of Flight Engineer is fast disappearing.  Most of the engineer's job can now be done by computers and automatic equipment, so the newer airplanes don't carry flight engineers.

  4. anybody can be successful in their chosen endeavor, if you really feel like to it then go ahead with that in mind you'll go places. I always wanted to be a writer but then circumstances or necessity force me to be a mechanic and I ended up accompanying aircraft, now only Europe & Africa are the places  I've never been to.

  5. It will be a lot easier and more  profitable to become a pilot than a flight engineer.  Especially since we flight engineers are becoming a dying breed, sort of like the dinosaurs.

Though there are many famous female pilots past and present I can name one that I have met personally.  She was a former Miss California but I don't remember what year she was crowned.  She now flies for a major airline like United or American Air.  And who said Beauty pageant contestants were all air heads.  She is a sharp and competent pilot and very good natured and down to earth too.
