YouTube launches four new action sports channels
The video-sharing website YouTube launched four new action sports channels on Tuesday, January 17, offering fans a variety of high-quality and original programmes.
The global head of sports for YouTube, Claude Ruibal, conceded that the launch of the new channels from some of the world’s leading producers will definitely help the site to attract an even broader base of action sports fans.
The four channels launched on Tuesday include pro skateboarder Tony Hawk’s RIDE Channel, the Red Bull Channel, Alli Sports and Network A.
RIDE, a 24-hour channel, will be rolling out 22 new shows devoted to the skateboarding lifestyle during the course of 2012. According to Hawk, the channel will be proving an in-depth coverage of skateboarding lifestyle, with the programmes ranging from tricks
and tips to music and art. The channel will also introduce shows such as “One in a Million” that will allow amateurs to compete for sponsorship, or offer subscribes a behind-the-scenes access to celebrities.
The Red Bull Channel has also tasked the producers to roll out new shows for the action sports fans. One of the shows that the producers are currently working on is a 13-episode series featuring the daily life of some of the most renowned action sports athletes.
Network A, which is a collaboration between Bedrocket Media Ventures and Wasserman Media Group, will be offering interviews of well-known action sports athletes, along with highlights of memorable performances.
Alli Sports, which has already earned quite a reputation in the action sports industry due to its role in providing extensive coverage to action sports events over the years, will be offering tips from athletes on performing advanced tricks. The channel
will also be bringing rising stars under spotlight and offering the latest action sports news and highlights.
Commenting on the launch of four new channels on YouTube, Bedrocket’s Brian Bedol said that the new channels will be featuring shows produced while keeping the demands of fans in mind. He further added that the video-sharing website, YouTube, will undoubtedly
serve as a great platform for the new shows as the non-linear format will allow the fans to customise their viewing experience.
