Youcef Reguigui wins third stage and Azzeddine Lagab takes overall lead in 2011 Tour d’Algerie
Grpment Sportif Petrolier Algerie team’s Youcef Reguigui won the third stage of Tour d’Algerie 2011 on Wednesday, June 29. Azzeddine Lagab took the overall leader’s yellow jersey.
The race started in Chlef and ended in Tiaret. The 21-year-old Youcef took a total of 4 hours, 14 minutes and 44 seconds to cover the distance of 167 kilometres.
Recently, Youcef won the first spot in National Championship, Road Elite and also grabbed the third spot in Ain Benian race. He also took the runner-up spot in third stage of Cups of Nations Ville Saguenay.
After winning the stage, Reguigui Youcef said, "It was a very difficult course played on a mountain, but the descent made us much good. I managed to score points in the sprint classification. I will do my best to keep the green jersey. "
A group of four riders, which include Daniel Teklehaimanot (Equipe Nationale D'erythre), Youcef Reguigui (Grpment Sportif Petrolier Algerie), Khaled Abdenebi (Equipe Inter Ligue) and Mouadh Betira (Ville D’Alger Ain Benian), made their first breakaway.
Daniel Teklehaimanot was able to build an advantage of 4 minutes and 20 seconds over the peloton and won the first sprint. With 57 kilometres to go, all of them worked together and gained a lead of 3 minutes and 15 seconds.
In the last 15 kilometres, four riders managed to join Daniel, but all of them failed to catch him. Youcef maintained his pace and managed to cross the finish-line first, ahead of other cyclists.
Lagab took the overall lead with a timing of 10 hours, 14 minutes and 45 seconds, while Adil Jelloul was the runner-up with a difference of 19 seconds.
Azzeddine said, "The riders have a lot of GS Oil collaborated in this mountainous stage. Our teammate deserved the victory of the stage. Thursday's race will determine the leader's yellow jersey, but it will monitor by the Eritreans."
Natnael Berhane of (Equipe Nationale D'erythre) finished third and Frédéric Lubach (Comite De Provence) was in fourth spot with a difference of 21 seconds.
The next stage will start in Tiaret and end in El Khemis. All the riders will cover the distance of 162 kilometres.
