Can anyone help to find an inexpensive way to visit this area where my great great grandparents came from. Starting off from Southeast England?

  1. I suggest taking a Ryanair flight from London Gatwick as they have a direct route to Cork. Really cheap if you want book it off-season such as late September or October (Just don't bring too much luggage- they love over-charging!). A return flight should cost about GP£30, maybe even less.

There you will arrive into Cork airport and you can get a bus into Cork City for a few euro, or around €10-€15 for a taxi if you can afford it.

In the city you will be able to get a bus no bother to Youghal, just go to Bus Eireann, Parnell Place, Cork: TEL (353) (0)21 808188 if you want to inquire. That should set you back around €12 for a return ticket. Its a lovely place...been there a few times. You will love it!

  2. Pembroke dock to Rosslaire, then a bus to Youghall.

or a flight from Birmingham/Luton to Waterford or Cork airport.connections are not too bad.

  3. You could get a train to Hollyhead then get a boat from Hollyhead to Dun Laoghaire http://www.stenaline.ie/ferry/

or to Dublin city itself http://www.irishferries.com/

might be a tad easier to go straight to the city, there are shuttle buses from Dublin port to Dublin, hop on one then go to the Bus Eireann depot beside Connolly station http://www.buseireann.ie/ and they bring you anywhere. Or hop on a train from the station http://www.irishrail.ie/home/, costs more tho.

Shouldnt cost more than €50/€60, if you ration.
