Youhei Takiguchi conquers Men’s 1500m freestyle crown: 2011 FINA World Cup Series, Tokyo
The penultimate evening of the 2011 FINA World Cup Series saw a thrilling splash in Tokyo’s arena, on Sunday, November 13. Youhei Takiguchi of Japan went on to clinch the Men’s 1500m freestyle title in the session.
Hype for the Men’s long course meet was created in Tokyo’s stadium, where Ayatsugu Hirai, along with other Japanese swimmers including Daisuke Doi and Youhei Takiguchi were declared the hot favourites to win the battle for the final heat. The match began
exactly in time with the referee’s whistle, as Japan’s Takiguchi got off to a thrilling start in the pool and produced wonderful turns over his rivals throughout the splash.
Youhei showed great consistency throughout the race and knocked the finishing divider in a record breaking blot of 14 minutes and 42.22 seconds to clinch the Men’s 1500m freestyle title over his rivals. Tokyo’s crowd really enjoyed the swim of Youhei Takiguchi.
In the meantime, Takiguchi’s compatriot, Daisuke Doi showed great level of vigour and consistency all the way through the long course meet in the pool against his competitors. More importantly, he did not lose his speed throughout the splash.
As a result, Doi went on to win the silver medal in the respective race by touching the finishing blockade in a unique time of 14 minutes and 51.21 seconds. Doi was very pleased due to his splash on the penultimate day in the pool.
Despite the scintillating swims of Youhei Takiguchi and Daisuke Doi, Ayatsugu Hirai of Japan was also not away behind in the respective race, as Hirai grabbed the bronze title by thumping the finishing barrier in a stunning time of 14 minute and 51.41 seconds.
Another Japanese swimmer, Ryouta Watanabe rose up to expectations of Tokyo’s arena as Watanabe hit the finishing cordon in a blot of 14 minutes and 53.02 seconds to earn fourth place honours in the respective race. Yuuto Satou of Japan touched the finishing
wall in the respective meet and ended his swim in a time of 14 minutes and 57.29 seconds.
