The Moroccan international saw red in Montpellier’s 2-2 draw with Evian TG and the expulsion of the midfielder could become the turning point of the campaign
Rene Girard’s Montpellier Herault squandered some precious points in the final furlong of the title race following a 2-2 draw with Evian TG.
Now, La Paillade lead Paris Saint-Germain by six points who have a game in hand. If PSG manage to beat AS Saint-Etienne on Wednesday, they will just have a three-point deficit which means that the title race is still wide open.
Though one can expect Montpellier to bounce back, the expulsion of Younes Belhanda last night changes things dramatically.
Tuesday night was a bad one for La Paillade as the newly-promoted side took the game to the league leaders who were out of ideas and had to thank topscorer Olivier Giroud to save their blushes late in the game.
Belhanda scored a goal in the 42nd minute but the lead was cancelled by a http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Thomas-Kahlenberg-c34966 striker a few minutes later. Kevin Berigaud gave the visitors a well-deserved lead before Giroud scored the equaliser six minutes before injury time.
Though a point won should not be considered a perilous outcome, the red card for Younes Belhanda is a bad timed occurrence to say the least.
The youngster had an altercation with Evian defender Cedric Mongongu. Belhanda lost his cool and exchanged a few blows with the defender which resulted in both man being sent for a shower.
Though the red card wasn’t such a bad news for Cedric, the same can’t be said for Belhanda. The Moroccan is set to miss the final three games of the season for his side. Montpellier play Stade Rennais, Lille and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/AJ-Auxerre-c38247 with all three sides in great form.
Knowing that things might get a lot rough, Rene Girard has chosen not to be ultra dramatic about the situation.
The Frenchman admits that Evian played very well against his side and his side also gave the visitors chances to score goals and get back in to the game.
Though Girard refused to talk about the repercussions of Belhanda’s expulsion, the tactician must be having a real headache as to how to solve this particular dilemma.
