My little parakeet just took his first long ranged flight( about 10 feet) but smashed his head into a window. I'm just a little bit worried if he got any brain damage. Or even a concusion if thats possible. should I take him to a vet?

  1. Probably. Mine always crashes into things, but not headfirst. It's always good to make sure. :)

Next time he's out cover up windows and mirrors with a curtain so it won't happen again.

  2. I doubt that he suffered any damage.  However I am worried that this scene will repeat itself if you allow your bird free flight in a room with curtains or drapes not drawn.  Birds are drawn to the outside and they dont know there is a barrier.  Aslo, fans that do not have a cage around them(ceiling fans) will definately do damage when you bird flies into them(first hand knowledge).  Other hazards- hot  food, hot stoves , water and many others.  Unless you are willing to go thru the house looking for all possible dangers I suggest you have a professional clip  his wings and show you how to do it.  Besides it will have the added advantage that he will be dependent on you.

  3. parakeets are used to crashing into things, keep an eye on him, if he as trouble standing or keeping balance he may have been hurt and u should take him to a vet, check out parrotecentral.net for good bird info

  4. i think you should take it to the vet and to prevent this from happening again clip its wings and heres some info about how to clip its wings if you do http://www.freewebs.com/charliefeathers/...
