Young( 2 months old) parakeet question.?

When's a good time to clip the wings of my young parakeet. By the way, my daughter says clipping the wings is cruel but i read that it;s best to clip the wings, right?

At two months old your budgie is old enough to have its wing clipped for the first time.

It really depends how much time you are spending with the bird outside of its cage. When I was a kid we kept our budgie fully flighted- she would stay in her cage most of the time and once a week we would let her out in one of the bedrooms to fly around for some exercise.

Nowdays I have 2 slightly larger parrots who both have their wings clipped- it is much safer for them. I dont have to worry about them flying into the sink or the fish tank and drowning. I dont have to clean all the bird poo off my curtains, and I have more control over 2 very dominant birds.

Your Budgie will be much easier to tame and handle with a clipped wing, as well.

In the end its your decision. Have a professional show you how to clip the wing to make sure you dont hurt your bird on the first attempt.

It really depends on the personality of the bird. Some birds are so friendly that they do not really need their wings clipped. If that is the case you MUST mainly worry about the immediate dangers and  make sure your house is bird safe by closing toilet seats, no ceiling fans or  house fans, no standing dish water as well as constant supervision..  Sometimes if the bird is a first pet for children the ability to fly is a good thing because the bird can get away from the children if they are  over handling it.    When it flies off you know it is tired and ready to be returned to cage.

When it is 6 months old. I don't clip mine now cause' i have trusted it and deicided to give it a taste on how it feels to have a full flight.

Its very good. At first, yes i thought it was rude but unless you want them to fly away i suggest its a good thing u clip them. Its a good time to take them somewhere unless you know how to clip them. But if your a first time i suggest you take them to a pet store and have them show you
