Young English footballers should be handled with care
– EPL special
It is not exactly biased. But, call it what you may and the fact will still remain. The English young talent is being transferred, sold, promoted, and brought into the limelight for a price tag that is exuberant and given their tender position in the global
football arena, a bit too flashy.
Just the fact that they are English adds millions to their price. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rovers-c40385 to Manchester United for £16.5 million. On the other hand, Henderson made
a switch from Sunderland and over to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 for even a bigger price tag of nearly £20 million.
We cannot deny the talent and the skill set that these young players possess. But, thrusting them in to the limelight could actually limit their growth process and they may not become the players that they could have been.
Currently 21 years old, Henderson has been a constant feature in the English Premier League for the past two seasons with a single international appearance thus far. Henderson is only 18 and has one Premier League season under his belt. He has represented
the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Junior-c20060 English international team on several occasions. Whether this limited experience and their age actually justifies the fees or not is something we will have to wait and see. But, young English players are not value for money.
The local English clubs have come under criticism of often turning to foreign players in their quest for success. The constant failure of the English national team is one of the factors for such a trend. It has been seen that the Premier League clubs end
up not promoting the English talent. As far as that is concerned, the criticism is justified. But, every time there is an emerging English talent he is linked to the top clubs. This speculation raises the price for the player. That is exactly what has happened
in the case of Jones and Henderson.
Eventually, this exuberant spending will takes its toll on the players. It will put an undesirable pressure on the tender shoulders of these ambitious youngsters.
It may not even represent the true value as per the skills of each player. Wayne Rooney’s £25 million move when he was only 19 years old is surely an exception and it does not represent a worked out formula. Rooney has gone on to become one of the best players
in the world today. But, his price tag never really forecasted his future value as definite. Therefore, it cannot be termed as a trend or a rule. It was an exception that paid off.
The main problem facing the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 as a football location has been the fact that it has been constantly failing to produce top quality young players. The level of quality with Spanish or Brazilian players is far superior to that of England’s. If a youngster
fails to perform there he already has a queue of players waiting to replace him.
If either Henderson or Jones fail to live up to the expectations associated with their transfer fee, they are bound to come under severe media criticism. In such a case, the media will be justified to do that. A bad season for such a player could potentially
shatter their confidence and push their career into the oblivion for good.
If England truly has to develop this talent and make them a permanent feature that is consistent with their performance, then these players need to be developed over time. Putting them on to a very expensive speed train could either get these players on
destination quickly or they could just crash, burn and wither away. The latter is most damaging for the future of English football.
