I'm going to New York this winter and was wondering if this was any good. It's either this or Wicked and we are torn.

  1. You may also want to make your decision based on where you currently live.

Wicked is currently touring the U.S. and may make a stop in your neck of the woods.

If Young Frankenstein does tour it may not be for a couple more years, and this would depend on consistent returns at the Broadway box office.  However, early reviews of the show were very mixed. No closing date has yet been set for YF, so that is a good sign.

  2. I have seen both Young Frankenstein and Wicked, they are both spectacular!

Wicked has amazing singing and choreography, and an enchanting story-line. It is a show you absolutely must see in your lifetime. The numbers in it are so full of magic and inspiration, the energy level is through the roof.

Young Frankenstein is Mel Brooks, so of course it's going to be one of the funniest musicals on Broadway! It had really amazing choreography. I worked with one of the choreographers, [there are two], and he was so full of energy, and it really showed in the production. There are some great singers with unique voices. There are a lot of really cool special effects and the songs are very well arranged.

It truly depends on what style of musical you prefer, but both of them are definitely worth seeing; see both if you can!

  3. It's a three hour chick flick live on stage.

Just saw it in Chicago. Wife liked it pretty well.

Knowing what I now know, I wouldn't go.

Didn't care for it much at all.

The staging and production values were very good. The acting more than adequate. Just didn't care for the storyline or dialog.

Had a hard time even understanding a lot of the lyrics due to the only adequate audio system.

My opinion. Guys stay away. Let your wives go to Wicked while you find a nice jazz or blues club to hang out in.

Have not really seen a musical that I have liked since maybe Sound of Music or many of the Rogers and Hammerstein shows.

That's me. Maybe it's you too. Or maybe you think I am just a huge sourpuss.
