Young Goalie Jack Campbell working hard for breakthrough chance in major league –NHL Update
It has been over a year since 19-year-old goalie, Jack Campbell, was drafted by Dallas Stars as their 11th overall pick during round-one of the 2010 National Hockey League (NHL) Entry Draft, but as of yet, has not been signed by the major league
franchise.
After the draft, Campbell did not show the performance which would make Dallas Stars' management drop their jaws in amazement, but this time around, the Port Huron, Missouri, United States native terms his development as a breakthrough.
"I think it couldn't have gone better mentally for me", Campbell said about his previous season in the Ontario Hockey League. "I had my first up-and-down start to a year where normally I've been consistent the entire year. Last year I had a couple bad games
that I'm not used to having”.
Jack Campbell over the years has participated mostly with the USA National Team Development Program for the under 18 and continued to do so until finally joining the United States in the World Junior championships during the 2009-2010 season and helped lead
them to win a bronze medal with a .941 save percentage and 1.70 goals against average.
Last season, Campbell performed with Windsor Spitfires in the OHL last season and has consistently shown a gradual improvement in his game-play throughout. He appeared in 45 games and was 24-14-4 with 3.80 goals against average.
Campbell participated in Dallas Stars training camp this offseason and without a doubt has shown that he has grown as a player over the year.
"I think last year I was still going through that whole whirlwind stage of getting drafted", Campbell said. "I was just real excited to be there. This year I went in with a purpose. I really prepared for it all summer, worked really hard and put on a lot
of weight. I wanted to show the coaches how hard I've been working".
As of yet, Campbell’s position is still not clear whether he will perform in the major league next season or not, but according to rumours, it is most likely the young goalie will be sent back to the OHL for a final season before being tested in the NHL
with Dallas.
