Young Rory Mcllroy confident of his maiden Masters victory – Masters News
The young leader at Masters, Rory McIlroy, from Northern Ireland has looked confident throughout the two rounds. This is the reason that he still leads the championship by a margin of two shots over Jason Day.
McIlroy is now hoping that he can continue his birdie streak in the next two rounds also. His past record does not impress him much, but in this major, he is looking entirely different. It looks like Augusta National Golf Club course suits him and the conditions
are perfect to continue his dominance.
At the end, it comes down to wearing the green jacket. It will surely be an honour for McIlroy to win the green jacket for first time in his career and make his countryman Graeme McDowell proud who missed the cut earlier. This is an opportunity in taking.
It was a delight to watch McIlroy hit powerful shots off the fairways. He was also superb with his long drives as his stats were on the high side. Now that he is two clear on the leader board, anything can happen on the third and fourth day.
McIlroy still cherishes his bad memory of last year’s The Open where he was leading the first round and carded a disastrous round of eight-over par, 80 on the second day. This history will surely be in his mind. If he continues to play in this manner, there
are bright chances that he will be the one to wear the green jacket from the defending champion, Phil Mickelson.
The 21-year-old was swinging superbly during the two rounds. His swing was in great shape as the crowds simply were entertained by the youngster leading the Masters. This has happened after 1997 when Tiger Woods won his first Masters.
Still after in the lead, there are eye-brows that are raised for McIlroy. Obviously with golf, there are critics. The Gurus still predict that McIlroy will not be able to cope up with the challenge and will falter in the third or fourth round.
McIlroy has high hopes with his game. He is all prepared to stand up against the field which is on his tail. After his second round, the 21-year-old said, "I hope it will help me. I have that experience to draw on, especially being in a similar position
to last year at St. Andrews. I feel like I'm better prepared to tee off in the third round of a major with the lead."
The youngster will surely be facing a tough challenge. With Tiger Woods and the experienced K.J. Choi three behind, he will have to play well to maintain his lead.
Woods was back in contention on the second day when he carded a brilliant round of six-under par, 66. He is tied for the third spot with Choi.
The crowds will be entertained by the level of golf on the third day. Some fireworks and brilliance from players are expected.
