Young Would Consider New Deal
Aston Villa star, Ashley Young, has strongly suggested that he would sign a new contract at the club were it put in front of him.
Young has been one of the most exciting players at the club in recent times but he has never produced the consistency that many think he is capable of. This has led to suggestions over whether a new contract offer from the club would be the best idea.
However, supporters of the player say that his moments of magic are well worth paying for and Aston Villa are reportedly preparing a new deal to put in front of the player.
There are a number of positives that a new contract would give to Young but for now he'll probably be keeping his options open. Most Premier League clubs have only just joined up again for pre-season and it's likely that this matter won't be over any time soon.
A New Contract
A new contract would allow the player to focus on his club and doing well in the Premier League. It would mean that he would not have to drop everything, move to another club and settle in, which would all take time.
It would give Young confidence because this is something that he seems to have lacked during his career. He has been in and out of both the Aston Villa side and the England team and he looks a little downbeat when he is dropped from either.
He said: "If the contract talks are put forward to me, then of course I will sit down and talk. I have enjoyed my time here (at Villa), I have learnt a lot and I think I have a lot more learning to do under the manager. They are the club that gave me my chance. Hopefully I can build on that and we will see what happens."
It has also become very clear over the last one or two seasons that Young has a great deal of respect for the Aston Villa manager, Martin O'Neill. He has said that O'Neill is one of the few people who understands exactly how he plays and this is important for the development of his game.
Options
Young looks like a player who likes to keep all of his options open. This means he will not sign a contract with Aston Villa until he is certain that it is the right thing for him to do.
There are a number of other clubs who could come in and sign the player. He possesses a great deal of quality both on and off the ball and would represent a great player for a variety of clubs. They are sure to be sniffing around any contract talk like sharks, waiting to see if Young stays on or rejects an Aston Villa offer.
Advice
Aston Villa will be nothing more than a top half of the table team by the end of the season. Young staying would mean that the Villa midfield would be a lot more compact and organised. He is the main winger of the team and he would be crucial to their wide player. Their chances of breaking in to the European places will be a lot higher if Young stays on at the club.
He also takes a lot of the set pieces, which makes him a good candidate to score more goals than many other wingers. Don't be afraid to back him to be the highest scoring midfield player in the Premier League regardless of the club he is playing for.
