  1. I've never had to tell my parents that I'm pregnant.

But if I did, I imagine I'd be pretty d**n nervous.

  2. My mother's exact words were (uttered with a doubtful expression): "We (she and my dad) would be happy about it if only you were married." This was to be their first grandchild. And that was in the late 20th century. And the fact that I and my bf were both over the moon about it made no difference to them.

I was so happy, even unmarried (I did marry my bf eventually), I didn't really care what they thought. They were delighted the second time I fell pregnant, but ironically by then my marriage was on the rocks. My third pregnancy was the result of a silly affair just after my husband and I split up, and my dad carpeted me to order me to have a termination. (I didn't.)

You will gather from this that my parents and I aren't close - they are still alive but I live on the other side of the world. My dad has still had a few tries (all unsuccessful) at pulling my strings via email!

I don't recommend that you have a child until you're good and ready, both of you if possible, but it doesn't always happen that way. If you have a good relationship with your parents and they really love you, they really ought to support you, no matter what. Of course that's not also the case, as I found out, so you would need the inner strength to carry on alone, if necessary. I've done that and I'm still here, so are my three beautiful and (very nearly!) perfect children.

For goodness sake don't get pregnant just because your friends are doing it. Babies are gorgeous but they are also smelly and they scream at night, and take up every waking minute of your life during the day too. And they cost a fortune to raise. Your life (and your body!) will never be the same again. Best you enjoy your life first and wait until the circumstances are right.
