  1. If your cockatiel is 10 days old, it should be in a climate controlled brooder, not in a regular bird cage.  Young birds without feathers will not survive without the extra warmth that a brooder provides.  When the baby gets all its feathers, it can be transferred to a weaning cage which is a small cage with a low perch, and food and water bowls on the floor of the cage.  Your baby will not need any food other than formula for several weeks.   Cockatiels can be gradually weaned off formula anywhere from 8-12 weeks.  During this time you will still hand feed but add other foods, like millet, seed, fruits, etc.

There are lots of articles on handfeeding and weaning Cockatiels on the internet.

  2. It is not safe to keep a 10 day old baby cockatiel in any cage regardless of size. Remember its still a baby and requires warmth, so keep the baby in a brooder with a heating pad under the brooder to keep him warm. Have the setting set on low. Don't forget to put 2 inches of pine shaving inside the brooder. Continue feeding with a syringe, around 6-8 weeks your little cockatiel will start to lose interest and want other foods. During the 6-8 week period, put sprey millets in the cage for him to pick at. This picking at the sprey millet will interest him/her to eat it. Wait few weeks for him to adjust on seeds, then in a seperate food tray, add dark leafy vegetables such as spinach, broccoli leaves flowers, bok choy, and lettuce. I suggest sprinkling Prime vitamin on the vegetables as this contains calcium and protein to make your cockatiel stronger. See the following link for PRIME vitamin supplements.

  3. is there older cockatiels in the big cage? if yes...then no, the older ones might peck at him, but if its just him, i believe so. i put my parakeets in a big cage when thy were young. i would give him a comfortable place to sleep in the big cage and have the bottom of the cage comfortable so he is able to wonder around. i would sprinkle some seeds and leafy greens on the bottom of the cage and see if he eats it

  4. Way too big and scary for one tiny bird.
