Young drivers taking the better of experienced ones so far in 2011 Formula 1 season
The 2011 Formula 1 season is underway and the first three of the total 19 scheduled grands prix are done in Australia, Malaysia and China.
So far, the young drivers have taken the better of the experienced ones.
If we look at the top five teams and their drivers pairing, all the younger drivers in the team have scored more points than the experienced and aged ones.
Starting from the Red Bull team drivers, Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber, the young 23-year-old German and the defending champions is the leading point scorer in the 2011 drivers’ championship so far. Vettel has 68 points in the bag while the 34-year-old
Australian driver, Webber, is 4th on the table with 37 points.
The German has taken two wins and one podium finish while his Aussie counterpart did a fabulous job in the Chinese Grand Prix to take the lowest step of the podium. Although Mark Webber was the driver of the day in Shanghai, but Vettel has put on a good
show in Qualifiers and also in the first two races when he was untouchable at the top position.
Talking about the all-British McLaren team drivers, Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button, the former has led the team to a handsome position in the constructors’ championship table.
Hamilton has one win and one podium finish while Button has only one podium finish. Talking about the points, the younger of the two Brits is leading the team battle with 47 points and second position in the drivers’ championship, while the elder is in third
place with 38 points.
Lewis Hamilton has by far, impressed more than Button in the three races so far in his MP4-26. Button is more consistent performer than Hamilton because he has been up there in the top six in all the three races, while Hamilton slipped down to eighth position
in Malaysia. Nevertheless, on the points table, Hamilton leads the way from Button.
Next in line is the Ferrari team with two-time world champion Fernando Alonso and young Brazilian, Felipe Massa. With a two-month difference in age, the 29-year-old Spaniard, Alonso is leading the way in the uneasy Ferrari car.
Currently Alonso is fifth on the table with 26 points and Massa is sixth with 24 points.
Then comes the most surprising team of the 2011 season so far, the Lotus-Renault GP team. Vitaly Petrov and Nick Heidfeld have taken the fight to the leading teams in the opening round of the 2011 season so far. In the team, the 26-year-old Russian, Petrov
is leading the way from his 33-year-old counterpart, Heidfeld.
Talking about the Mercedes team, the young German driver Nico Rosberg has once again overshadowed the name and fame of his seven-time world champion teammate, Michael Schumacher.
Nico has out-paced, out-performed and out-matched Schumi in all the first three races of the 2011 Formula 1 season. The 25-year-old German is ninth on the drivers’ championship table while Schumi is down in 11th position.
More or less same pattern follows in the lower ranks of the remaining teams, which makes it clear that the young drivers have a better control over the 2011 machines.
