Young happy not to have signed for Liverpool & City deny reports of a spat between Tevez and Mancini
Luke Young, the right back from Aston Villa has admitted that it was a wise move on his part not to sign for Liverpool in the summer. There was huge speculation that the former Charlton man may be on his way to Anfield during the transfer window.
Liverpool manager, Roy Hodgson was keen on signing Young; the defender was also interested at one point but in the end decided to opt out of it.
Hodgson after failing to avail the services of Young decided to go to his former pupil at Fulham and signed Paul Konchesky. The Fulham man though has not had the best time at Anfield, as the team has had numerous problems both on and off the field.
Young on the other hand has been part of Villa in every game, and compared to Liverpool’s miserable 18th place Aston Villa are sitting pretty on 8th place.
Luke Young said that he knew that going to Liverpool did sound good on paper, but he did realize that it would have come with some added challenges. The right back added that at the time he knew that if he worked hard at his current team he would get enough opportunities and that is exactly what has happened. He added that at the age of 31 he did not want to go to a club where he was not guaranteed a first team spot, and now looking at how things have turned out for the Reds, he is glad that he made the decision to stay.
Liverpool signed Glean Johnson from Portsmouth last season, and he has been doing rather well. Young said that he is a regular England international and with him being there he would have really not had much of a look in.
"I pretty much knew that with Glen Johnson the England No 1 right-back at Anfield, I'd be watching in the Premier League and maybe playing in Europe.”
"I had the feeling the offer was as kind of a back-up for left-back and right-back.”
Manchester City climbed up to the 2nd spot after the 7th Premier League weekend. City beat Newcastle 2-1 on the weekend, but following the match there were reports that there were some problems between the front man Carlos Tevez and manager Roberto Mancini. Team’s assistant manager Brian Kidd however denied the reports and said that it was all media speculation and nothing such had happened.
Number of British newspapers claimed that at half time against Newcastle there was a spat between Tevez and Mancini.
It was reported that when Mancini walked into the dressing room at half time, Tevez was addressing the whole team and the manager decided to impose his authority. The reports in the newspapers claimed that Mancini had instantly told Tevez to get changed as he was going to substitute him after the break. However, the issue was resolved later on in Mancini’s office and Tevez went on to play rest of the match. Manchester City went on to win the match 2-1 in the end.
Regardless of the detailed reports by Newspapers assistant boss, Kidd insists that all of that is utterly false, and the media is trying to cook up a story which does not exist. He said that things are said in the locker rooms but they do not always mean that there is some serious problem.
He said, "There was an awful lot said between the group at half-time, but the lads showed a great response in the second half.
"It showed how badly they wanted to win.”
