Young players from Golden State Warriors anxious for the NBA action to start
The postponement of training camps, cancellation of pre season games and now the annulment of the first two weeks of the next NBA regular season is certainly a huge loss for the NBA players, both financially and professionally.
The NBA owners and the players union failed to shore the huge gaps in understanding over the new Collective bargaining Agreement on Monday and now with each passing day, the threat of cancellation of the whole NBA season becomes ever greater.
Among the players, the hardest hit of the lot are the new NBA draftees. The rookies haven’t had the opportunity to make an impression thus far and this extended wait for their NBA careers to commence is becoming torturous.
The 6 ft 7 Klay Thompson, who will be representing Golden State Warriors in the upcoming season is naturally upset over the issue.
"That's really bad news. It's tough with all this messy labor stuff going on, but it means I have more time to work” Thompson said.
Golden State Warriors possess a core of youngsters who would have benefitted greatly from a NBA preseason. The three rookies Jeremy Tyler, Charles Jenkins and Thompson still need to get accustomed to the NBA.
Thompson has been working extremely hard after being drafted and he wishes to be completely ready by the time the lockout ends. For that, he has set up his own private training camp. According to Thompson, he works out twice a day and is also spending time in sports Science Lab Southern California to enhance his flexibility and lateral movement.
His efforts have already started to pay dividends. He has gained 8 pounds, added 3 inches to his vertical jump and is much better at jumping off two feet also. Pretty psyched with his improvements, he added;
"Before the draft process, I could only reach my ankles, i'm in real good shape. My lower body is a lot stronger. I'm jumping the best I ever have. I've improved a lot with my explosiveness and first step this summer." He said.
However, not only the rookies, but  the players who would be playing their second season also require the season to kick off. Due to the lockout, these young players have been devoid of coaching and have missed out on a chance to develop bonding with the veterans in the team.
"It definitely hurts us more compared to guys going back to teams they've played on for a while." said Jeremy Lin, who will be playing his second season for Warriors when the labour dispute ends.
Jeremy Lin could not practice the whole summer due to an injured knee but after playing 3-4 exhibition games in China, he feels fit to go.
All in all, these young Warriors are rearing to go and that can only be a good omen for the Oakland based franchise.
