Young players ready to take control over the golfing world – Golf Feature
As most of the veteran golfers are losing their control over the golfing world, one thing is for certain, the young players are moving forward to take over their place.
If the top line of the world’s best golfers is analyzed, one will find an influx of young players, especially after Tiger Woods went off the scene in 2009.
The world number one Rory McIlroy is just 22 years old and both Martin Kaymer are Charl Schwartzel are 27.
This is not the first time that the golf community is witnessing a change in the names of the top golfers in the past few years.
Since the inception of the game, there has always been a search for new superstars to raise the bar for the others to come.
In 1960’s, Jack Nicklaus emerged as the new emperor of the world of golf. The mid 70’s witnessed Seve Ballesteros taking the crown and the young Tiger Woods roared in the mid-'90s to threaten his opponents for the top position in the world of golf.
Now, when Tiger Woods’ era is over, many young guns are proving themselves and are placed in the top positions in the Official World Golf Rankings.
Rory McIlroy is no doubt the hottest sensation these days on the golfing scene. Whenever he confirms to participate in any event worldwide, he starts making the headlines.
He has now become a great threat to his opponents because of his ability to snatch victories.
Recently, he became the second youngest player in the history of the game to reach the top of the OWGR, after he won the 2012 Honda Classic.
A couple of weeks later, the crown was retaken by Luke Donald with a win in the 2012 Transitions Championship.
Yet, it was McIlroy again, who charged to the top when Donald faltered in the RBC Heritage at Harbour Town.
Another young player, Jason Day from Australia, has made his name in the world of golf in the past few years.
The highlights of his career include runner-up finishes in both the Masters Tournament and the US Open in 2011. In July 2011, he surged to the seventh position in the OWGR.
Despite the fact that he has only two professional victories registered under his name, yet he has the potential to outshine his rivals at any field around the world.
Another young golfing sensation from the United States, Rickie Fowler, is continuously fighting to earn his first victory on the PGA Tour.
He is best known for his colourful outfits. Yet, no one can underestimate him at any tournament that he participates in. In 2011, he took a six-stroke victory over McIlroy in the Asian Tour’s Kolon Korea Open.
Ryo Ishikawa, the top-ranked golfer from Japan, has earned a status of one of the best golfers around the world at the age of just 20.
At such a young age, he has achieved something that many people wish to get in their entire careers. He has already registered 11 victories in Japan, including 10 on the Japan Golf Tour.
One of his best performances of the career includes a round of 58 on the final day of The Crowns in 2010, when he defeated Hiroyuki Fujita and Paul Sheehan with a five-stroke margin.
By and large, there are a number of young players who have replaced many of the veterans who used to threaten their opponents with their appearances in the events all over the world.
It is now assumed that the next few years will witness the exit of old players from the golfing scene with new faces taking full control over the game.
