Young sailors set to race in 2012 RYA Volvo Youth National Championships
All young sailors from around the world are preparing to set their sail in the upcoming 2012 RYA Volvo Youth National Championships on the Welsh waters of Cardigan Bay. The championship will be hosted and organised by Clwb Hwylio Pwllheli Sailing Club and
will commence from March 31 to be concluded on April 6, 2012 at Cardigan Bay.
This year’s championship will see a record number of the nation’s top young sailors racing for the ultimate European glory. The entries to participate in the championship have been closed and the largest number of youngsters is ready to take part in the
most prestigious sailing event in the history. The regatta will feature a large fleet of 390 catamaran, dinghy and windsurfers who will race in six Youth classes.
The weather conditions across the racing area in Cardigan Bay are expected to be favouring the racers. However, there are chances for the winds to become a little tricky in the middle of the regatta but the sailors are determined to give their best on the
waters and clinch the glory in the end.
Such enthusiasm of the sailors has made the RYA Youth Racing Manager, Duncan Truswell, quite excited and he is happy to see such a large number of participants accepting to face the challenges during the regatta. Top guns of Youth sailing will also be their
including the Great Britain team.
Speaking to the media about the regatta, Truswell said, “I am absolutely delighted to see such a fantastic turnout for the 2012 RYA Volvo Youth National Championships at Pwllheli. This event is a great opportunity to showcase the sailors skills, develop
their competition routines and experience.”
He added, “In a year where understandably a huge focus will be on our Olympic team, the turnout, pedigree and number of medals already boasted by the huge number of sailors taking part is a great testament to the strength of our Junior and Youth programmes
and perhaps more importantly to the fantastic work done by an army of skilled, enthusiastic and motivated volunteers within our clubs and class associations.”

Truswell further commented that the sailors have been working hard all winter and he is looking forward to seeing some thrilling racing in the championship.
