Young shuttlers must be groomed to form stronger squad before 2014 Uber Cup, says Rexy Mainaky
Malaysia’s national coach Rexy Mainaky said that in order to avoid failure in 2014 Uber Cup, a stronger and elevated squad is necessary and the young shuttlers must be groomed for that purpose and preparations should be started right now.
Currently, Malaysian females have virtually failed to qualify for Uber Cup Finals as they could not perform well in the ongoing Uber Cup Preliminary Round in Macau.
Rexy wants Sonia Cheah and Yang Li Lian, who are young and energetic and have the potential to earn glory for Malaysia at international level.
He expects both ladies to become top class shuttlers and establish their name in the badminton world.
The coach wants young shuttlers to put more effort to go into next level and also wants the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) to provide them, particularly Sonia and Li Lian, opportunities of playing in more and more international tournaments.
He said, "Sonia and Li Lian have the ability to become good international players and if there is more focus on them, they can improve fast. Sonia is unable to be here because of injury and Li Lian showed her quality when we played India. These two players are the future and we must keep pushing them to avoid failure in the 2014 Uber Cup."
Rexy also said that Sannatasah Saniru, Lydia Cheah and Tee Jing Yi should continue working hard and he wants them to start their preparations immediately in order to get a good performance in the Sudirman Cup next year.
Malaysia’s Women’s Doubles experienced shuttlers, Chin Eei h*i and Wong Pei Tty, will quit from international badminton after Olympic Games and the coach wants proper replacements of these players.

Rexy said, "I must also ensure the doubles players keep improving as I don't want to be caught in the same position when Pei Tty-Eei h*i retire.”
Malaysia has always been struggling to find top quality players in the Women’s Singles category and after the retirement of Wong Mew Choo, there in no other player who could challenge the world at the moment.
Rexy wants to start preparing young shuttlers in female squad right away and expects better performances in the next year’s Sudirman Cup and 2014 Uber Cup.
