Young spinner Veerasammy Permaul looking to follow the footsteps of his compatriot Devendra Bishoo
The Young West Indian spinner, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Veerasammy-Permaul-c94981, is looking to follow the footsteps of his compatriot, Devendra Bishoo, who has fascinated everyone by his outstanding leg-spin bowling at highest level.
Permaul and Bishoo are childhood friends and have played a lot of cricket together. Heaping special praise on leg-spinner for his fantastic performance in international cricket over the last few months, Permaul said that he is extremely impressed with Bishoo
who, at the start of his career, made a good impression at international level.
Permaul is currently playing at the Sagicor High Performance Centre (HPC) in Barbados. He aimed that he will soon earn a place in the national side and prove his worth.
“I am very close to Bishoo. We play a lot of our cricket together and we train together. We play for the same club, Albion, and play together in the Guyana team. We talk a lot about cricket and we learn a lot from each other,” Permaul said.
Commenting on his ongoing stint at HPC, the left-arm spinner described that he is enjoying his time at the centre. He explained that he has been working on his accuracy by practicing a lot of spot bowling in the nets.
Furthermore, he shared that as a spinner he needs to learn things in order to expose the weaknesses of rival batsmen. Permaul further stated that it is his dream to play with Bishoo at the international level and he has been working extremely hard to materialise
his dream. The 21-year old spinner has participated in 32 first-class matches in which he has 101 wickets to his credit.
His record in the recent WICB Regional Four-Day Tournament was even more impressive as he picked up 25 wickets in the tournament at a strike rate of 18.88
When asked about his excellent show in the competition, the orthodox spin bowler added, “I was happy with the way I bowled in the Four-Day Tournament earlier this year. I was accurate and I was able to work out the batsmen. Now the job is to build on that
and try to get stronger as a bowler. I have clear goals and I know what I have to do to achieve my goals.”
