Youngest player in the 2011 FIVB Youth World Championship - Heidi Kandiel
14-year-old Heidi Kandiel is one active member of the Girls’ National U-19 Volleyball Team from Egypt. She has recently travelled to Ankara, Turkey with her team to compete at the on-going FIVB Girls’ Youth World Championship.
Kandiel has the distinction of being the youngest among all the registered players of the 2011 FIVB Youth World Championship. The competition has a total of sixteen teams from all across the globe and 192 players have been registered as active and back-up
players. The 2011 FIVB Girls’ Youth World Championship was kicked off last Friday, August 12 and it will be continued until August 21.
It has been two years that she was known to her friends and family as a tennis lover but one day she watched a random volleyball match in her club and fell in love with the sport. She would never have thought that she would get
a chance to play at the highest level.
Kandiel is super-excited to participate in the international competition at such a young age. She has a lot of dreams to pursue in the future with her beloved sport. She has a long way to go and she is determined to make her presence
felt in the world of volleyball.
Talking about her primary interest in volleyball, she stated: “I was playing Tennis since childhood but when I saw a volleyball match in my club I decided to play this sport professionally. I started with Maged Ibrahim the Mini
volley coach of my club, Heliopolis in Cairo. He encouraged me and taught me the main the skills of the sport.”
Furthermore, she added that in real life she always wanted to be a doctor and volleyball will surely help her to continue her dreams.
