Youngster Andres Molteni defeats veteran Jaroslav Pospisil in 1st round – Palermo Challenger 2011
Andres Molteni, an Argentine international and a qualifier here, went up against experienced Czech player Jaroslav Pospisil in the 1st round of the Palermo Challenger on 4th
October. Pospisil was clear cut favorite with all his experience and superior ranking. Molteni unexpectedly proved better in every field of game. The game was played in Palermo, Italy, and lasted two hours and thirteen minutes with Molteni hanging on
to place himself in the 2nd round with a cumulative score of 6-4, 7-5.
Molteni started the match with a positive instinct. He capitalized on his strength and moved across the court with a better footwork and pace then his opponent which allowed him an extra second to place his shots. Pospisil looked
a bit tired and was not properly moving on the pitch at the same comfort levels. The first set saw two aces from Pospisil compared to that none from Molteni but set was won on break points. The Argentine managed to save 5 out 5 break points and managed to
steal a single break point out of four to wrap up the first set.
Czech veteran brought his experience into play in the second set and prolonged it as much as he could before he was outplayed against the youngster’s stamina and strength. Molteni was delighted with his efforts and was ecstatic
to win against a superior ranked and experienced player. He managed to score his only ace of the game in the second set and won 53% of the total points to finish it off. This was a major upset in today’s results. No one thought that Molteni would win against
the well-experienced Czech professional but he proved everyone wrong and made his mark.
Molteni is another sensational player who would write history in near future if he maintains this prolific form and matures with time. Molteni now moves on into the second round of the event where he will take on Croat Antonio
Veic. Veic moved into the second round after surviving a mid match lapse and upsetting the sixth seeded Spaniard, Daniel Gimeno-Traver.
