Youngsters grace colours of Grand Champion Polo Club on Memorial Day Romp: Polo Recap
A group of youngsters including boys and girls graced the colours of Grand Champions Polo Club after Santa Clara captured the title of ‘The Memorial by Piaget’ tournament on May 30, 2011.
The honorary match comprised of three chukkas of which first one was played between boys and girls. In the last two frames, the young line-ups of Piaget and Pony Express fought each other.
In the first period, the boys powered a commanding 3-1 win over girls. The boys were at their best who displayed impressive show onto the field. The boy’s team consisted of Landon Daniels, Mackenzie Weiss, Javier Celis and Frankie Hall. They demonstrated
a wonderful show either on defence or offence.
Landon opened the scoring from the field effort, while his team-mate, Weiss, added a couple of goals to put their side ahead on the score-board.
From the other side, the girls also rendered best performances, but to no avail. The girls including Riley Ganzi, Maria Celis, Delfina Hall and Chase Schwartz exhibited outstanding offences, but could only score a single goal against the three of their competitors.
Schwartz was the player who carried out the strike in the concluding moments and scored the first goal of the day. After the first half of the play, the boys won the game by two goals, 3-1.
Pony Express versus Piaget, 1-1
In the later time, the young Piaget consisted of Grant Ganzi, Anthony Devrient, Christian Weiss and Matt Cohen played against Pony Express comprised of Clemente Devrient, Benji Daniels, Justin Daniels, Mackenzie Weiss and Landon Daniels at the same venue.
They played the final two frames of the honorary competition to entertain the spectators.
It was a fast and furious game played between the youngsters. Grant Ganzi notched the first goal of the contest to put Piaget ahead onto the score-board. Matt Cohen made a pair of lengthy runs towards the downfield to double the tally, but failed to do so.
From the other side, Christian Weiss and Anthony Devrient made dives to clear the ball from the danger zone. The resilient Piaget's defence kept Pony Express off the score-board in the opening chukka.
The attackers from Pony Express cranked up their offence in the second set of play and had it all even at one-all.
After getting a pass from Mackenzie Weiss, Pony Express’s Devrient managed the tying goal and locked the horns at 1-1 at the end of the regular time period. After every traditional polo match, all the participants were awarded special prizes in gracing the
colours of the Grand Champions Polo Club.
