No, I don't think companies should do this.  

Here's what we have - our county's & public school's credit union has a program for students.  Children can apply for a savings account.  Students are encouraged to save by giving them a quarter collector (envelope with slots for quarters).Once a month, the credit union has a day where they come into the school and act as a bank.  They take deposits from the children, and the children record their savings.  The students can be members of the credit union for life.
