An outspoken, straight forward and honest person, Khan simply concentrates on his game and does not indulge in petty politics that have plagued the Pakistan team for some time now.
He is the most successful batsman at the no.3 position for Pakistan and has all the cricketing shots in his armoury; aggressive and defensive as and when required. He has played many match winning innings for Pakistan and saved matches for his country as
well. There have been lean periods in his batting as well but he came through the rough patch all the times. He has captained the Pakistan side in all three formats of the game.
He made his debut in One Day Cricket against Sri Lanka on 13th February, 2000 at National Stadium, Karachi. He was playing with the big guns of Pakistani batting in that match like Saeed Anwar, Aamer Sohail, Mohammad Yousuf and Moin Khan. He was
sent in to bat at no.7 he scored 46 runs while he was unlucky being run out. Pakistan scored 245 runs in the match in reply to 274 runs by the opponent team thus losing the match by 29 runs.
Younis has played 213 ODI matches and scored 6028 runs at an average of 32.23 runs. With a highest ODI score of 144 runs, he has bagged 6 centuries and 39 fifties in his ODI career.
He entered into Test cricket with a bang on 26th February, 2000 against Sri Lanka at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. It was a thrilling encounter which Pakistan lost at the end by two wickets, but Younis proved his worth by despatching a magnificent
century in the second innings.
Younis has played 67 Test matches, scored 5617 runs at a healthy average of 50.60 runs, highest of 313 runs with 17 centuries and 23 fifties.
