Pakistan’s Younis Khan has claimed that despite not being the skipper of the team, he still has a say in the management. He is currently the senior most player in the line up, considering the number of international matches played.
Younis was appointed as captain of the Pakistani side in 2009 just before the ICC Twenty20 World Cup. He took over from all-rounder http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shoaib-Malik-c90088 and delivered straight away with an exceptional title victory in the Mega Event.
However, the 33-year-old was not retained as captain for long. He guided the team into the semi-final of another http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754, which knocked the team out of the tournament.
The veteran batsman went through some tough time after that and was banned from international cricket by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for false allegations of match fixing.
Former cricketers and supporters of Younis in the country criticised the move by the PCB and demanded his inclusion in the team.
The board did not bother about this at the start, but realised the importance of Younis after a serious dip in performance of the national team.
Due to this, the veteran was recalled to the national side and straight away proved his worth by scoring a Test century against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757.
Since then, Younis has been doing a terrific job for Pakistan and believes that he still remains a leader. He said, “Even though I am not the captain, the team management listens to me. Whether I am captain or not my aim is to achieve something for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755.
It is this aim that helped me win the Twenty20 World Cup for Pakistan. I am a leader whether I am captain or not.”
The stylish right handed batsmen further went onto say that captaining a team is not the easiest of jobs. He added, “While captaining you have too many things to do and not only focus on your performance but also on the performance of seniors and juniors
and help the management. Hence there are too many things on your mind.”
Pakistan are currently hosting a series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/United-Arab-Emirates-c3033 (UAE) and Younis has already played a few important knocks for the team. He will look to continue playing this way in the future as well.
