Pakistani veteran batsman, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Younis-Khan-c98325, has stated his desire to lead the national team, provided the Pakistan Cricket Board put forth a solid offer.
The team, under the coaching regime of Dave Whatmore, is eager to find a replacement for current skipper, Misbah-ul-Haq, whose passive approach in the limited-overs arena is considered detrimental to the team’s push for glory, and more importantly, long
term stability.
“I will definitely consider any such offer from the PCB,” said Khan.
The 34-year-old’s willingness to become the new ODI leader may come as a surprise to many, considering his past experience of leading the side, which ended in his resignation.
After being named captain in 2009, Khan’s tenure was a successful one for the Men In Green, guiding the team to the World T20 Cup glory and a semi-final berth in the Champions Trophy. However, he quit the job on an abrupt note, following a well-publicized
disagreement with his teammates and board members, forcing him to take temporary exile from cricket.
He however, returned for the national team duties with the aim of focusing solely on his batting. He further vowed never to captain the side again, forcing the PCB to look for reinforcements.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shahid-Afridi-c2482 held the reigns briefly, with the former being named as the Test skipper, while the latter led the side in the ODI circuit. However, all changed when Butt was involved in a spot fixing incident, forcing a re-shuffle, which saw
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Misbah-ul-Haq-c1972 emerging as the only viable candidate for the job.
The veteran then went on to captain in the shorter formats as well, after Afridi fell out with then coach, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ijaz-Butt-c64128. However, with the Green shirts looking to find a suitable replacement for Misbah, at least in ODIs and T20s,
Younis’ name has popped up in the reckoning and the senior statesman in looking eager than ever to don the captain’s arm-band.
A veteran of 76 Tests, the right-hander also expressed his intentions on continuing his association with the national team for at least 24 longer version bouts.
“I will retire after playing 100 Tests. But it all depends on my performance and fitness,” said the former skipper.
