UPDATE: Pakistan (277 for 7) beat Sri Lanka (266 for 9) by 11 runs.
Strong batting performances by Younus Khan and Misbah-ul-Haq helped http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 amass a decent total against Sri Lanka in their match-up during the ICC World Cup 2011. The match is being played at R Premadasa Stadium, Colombo. The Men in Green scored 277 in their allotted 50 overs.
Pakistan captain http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shahid-Afridi-c2482 elected to bat first after winning the toss and his team reached the total that he had said he expected at the start of the game.
The start to the innings was promising for the Men in Green as openers http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kenya-c752.
Shehzad failed to carry onto the good start and was dismissed after scoring just 13 runs off 23 balls. However, the fall of his wicket didn’t stop the flow of runs as Hafeez and wicketkeeper-batsman Kamran Akmal kept on playing their strokes freely.
A terrible mix-up between both the batsmen saw Hafeez getting run-out after scoring 32 runs from 31 balls. Soon after his wicket, Kamran also threw his wicket away trying to play an aggressive shot. The first-drop player was out after scoring 39 runs off 48 balls.
Pakistan were 105 with three wickets down in 20.2 overs when veterans Younus Khan and Misbah-ul-Haq paired up at the crease. Both players used their experience and rotated the strike continuously to keep the scorecard ticking.
They amassed a brilliant 108-run partnership for the fourth wicket and took their team’s total up to 213 in 40.5 overs. Younus got out after a terrific knock of 72 runs off 76 balls. He gave his wicket away in an attempt to lift the scoring rate.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Umar-Akmal-c2720 wasn’t able to express his true colours in today’s game as he was dismissed after scoring a struggling 10 runs from 15 balls.
However, a cameo from Afridi and sensible batting from Misbah helped Pakistan post a 278-run target for the hosts. Afridi was out after scoring 16 from 12 balls whereas Misbah remained unbeaten on 83 from 91 balls.
Thisara Perera and Rangana Herath took two wickets each for their team and will be hoping that their batsmen chase down the target.
