It use to be Goa, many years ago but now it is a dump full of beer swilling tourists - it is not true India anymore, just another Ibiza - in India, which is a shame because India is a magnificent Country, very spiritual and the people are wonderful. I think Kerala is nicer and lets hope it stays that way and doesn't become the next Goa!!

Overall Kerala as it has everything:  hill stations, beaches, backwaters, waterfalls, wildlife sanctuaries, plantations, good seafood, courteous locals and lush greenery.

If you want a fun time with a group, then Goa beaches.

Kodaikanal and Ooty in off season are also excellent destinations with stunning scenery, wildlife and bracing climate.  Ive not been to Sikkim, Darjeeling side but Im sure they must also be good places to visit.

Tamil Nadu is another good state for a holiday as it also has nice beaches, ancient culture and heritage in its magnificent temples and arts, excellent hill stations of Ooty, Kodai & Yercaud, abundant wildlife, tea gardens, great shopping, culinary delights, courteous locals and so much more.  

Andhra Pradesh also sounds very good, Ive only been to Hyderabad but I would love to visit the ancient Buddhist sites and also the Vishakapatnam-Araku-Borra caves tribal hill station circuit.  There is a Naxal problem in densely forested areas.

Kashmir is a mini Switzerland but the threat of terrorist attack is all too real as recent incidents against tourists have shown.  Similarly the forests of Chhattisgarh sound very enticing but then, who wants to be Naxalited?

Anywhere in Himalayas.

Am fascinated by the majestic Himalayan mountains and try visiting some place near Himalayas every year ( I stay about 2000+ kms away from the Himalayas, please note ).

I like the Chamba sector in Himachal Pradesh most. Ladakh comes just after.
