ok first of all you may not want to say jerk when  you tell her just say she needs to be more respectful or shes out

my advice, try to set a good example when your with her (be nice to people, don't gossip etc.) rather than just come right out and call her a jerk. that could have a negative effect on you and on your friendship.

just tell her straight out "you're a jerk".. if she's your best friend you guys should be able to communicate EASILY

if you lie to her and she finds out you will not be friends. so tell her the truth she will be mad but in time you will become friends

For me usually it gets to the point where I am actually upset about something because then I feel less bad about saying it. Of course the friend will always be defensive so try to be rational and not "attack" her if you can but it is important to let them know.
